The Peter and Paul Church reimagines a vacant place of worship as a shared community space for future generations. A minimal and reversible timber intervention improves accessibility and introduces a daycare facility while preserving the church’s religious character. By reconnecting the building to the village through a public corridor, the design restores the church as the social heart of Wolder, creating a dialogue between heritage, community, and new life.

The religious character of the church is maintained through the use of sightlines, directing the eye toward the presbytery as you enter the church. Additionally, the continued use of the cusped arch form and cross-rib vaulting found in the design of the church, creates a familiar relationship between the existing church and the intervention.
